An Introduction to the DalesBus Website

The DalesBus website is designed to help you get around the Yorkshire Dales area (including the Yorkshire Dales National Park and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) using public transport.

There are many bus services within the Yorkshire Dales which run throughout the year, these are supplemented by extra services during the Summer period, which mainly operate on Sundays and Bank Holidays from Easter or May Day weekends until mid-October.  This map (700KB PDF file) provides an overview of the main bus and train routes in the Yorkshire Dales for Summer 2013.

The main all-year bus services are listed below. Most of these services are provided commercially by the bus operators or are operated under contract to North Yorkshire County Council (weekdays) or the Dales and Bowland Community Interest Company, with funding from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund via DITA and Metro (Sundays).

 Bedale and Leyburn in Wensleydale from Ripon and Richmond
 Hawes in Wensleydale from Garsdale (on Leeds-Settle-Carlisle railway)

 Keld and Reeth in Swaledale from Richmond

 

An increased leisure bus network operates in the Summer months, including the following routes operating mainly on Sundays and Bank Holidays.  Many of these services are provided by the Dales and Bowland Community Interest Company, with funding from the Local Sustainable Transport Fund via DITA, Metro, the National Trust, Sovereign Health Care Trust and several other organisations.

The famous Settle to Carlisle Railway also passes through the Yorkshire Dales area, with several journeys daily throughout the year. There are also good rail links to several access points to the Yorkshire Dales. The Wensleydale Railway now runs between Leeming Bar, Bedale, Leyburn and Redmire for most of the year.

The Dales Bus Discount scheme offers discounts on accommodation, food and local attractions to anyone with a valid bus or train ticket.
