An Introduction to the Dalesbus Website

The Dalesbus website is the official website of  the Yorkshire Dales Public Transport Users Group, designed to promote the use of public transport in the Yorkshire Dales area.

There are many bus services within the Yorkshire Dales which run throughout the year, these are supplemented by extra services during the Summer period, which mainly operate on Sundays and Bank Holidays from Easter or May Day weekends until mid-October.

The main Dales areas covered by the all-year services are:

Grassington and Buckden in Upper Wharfedale from Skipton and Ilkley

Service 581 in Settle

Malham from Skipton and Gargrave

Settle from Skipton, Ingleton and Clitheroe

Bolton Bridge in Wharfedale from Skipton and Harrogate
Pateley Bridge in Nidderdale from Harrogate
Fountains Abbey from Ripon Service 74 at Ilkley Bus Station
Bedale and Leyburn in Wensleydale from Ripon and Richmond
Hawes in Wensleydale from Garsdale (on Settle-Carlisle railway)
Hawes and Leyburn in Wensleydale from Bedale and Northallerton
Keld and Reeth in Swaledale from Richmond

An increased leisure bus network operates in the Summer months, including the following routes:

 

 York, Leeds and Ilkley to Bolton Abbey, Grassington and Buckden in Wharfedale and Hawes in Wensleydale

Yorkshire Dalesman service 800

 Ilkley and Skipton to Malham, with connections from Leeds, Bradford and Harrogate
 Ripon to Leyburn, Redmire, Hawes and Garsdale
 Ribblehead to Hawes, Reeth and Leyburn
 Ingleborough Pony service, serving Settle, Ingleton, Clapham and Ribblehead
 Ravenstonedale and Kirkby Stephen to Hawes Northern Dalesman service 831 at Reeth
 Leeds and Otley to Pateley Bridge, Fountains Abbey, Leyburn and Richmond
 Harrogate and Pateley Bridge to Brimham Rocks and Upper Nidderdale
 York and Ripon to Fountains Abbey, Pateley Bridge and Grassington

 

A diagrammatic map and a list of places in the Yorkshire Dales served by bus on Summer Sundays and Bank Holidays are also available.

The famous Settle to Carlisle Railway also passes through the Yorkshire Dales area, with several journeys daily throughout the year. There are also good rail links to several access points to the Yorkshire Dales. The Wensleydale Railway has recently re-opened and now runs between Leeming Bar, Bedale, Leyburn and Redmire throughout the year.

The Dales Bus Discount scheme offers discounts on accommodation, food and local attractions to anyone with a valid bus or train ticket.
