The cycling World Road Championships are taking place in Yorkshire this year, and will be based in Harrogate from 21st to 29th September.
This major event will cause some disruption to bus services between 18th and 30th September, particularly in the Harrogate/Ripon area. Diversions will be in place in Harrogate town centre throughout the event.
Some of the main alterations to bus services are summarised below, but please check the race schedule and with the bus operators for possible disruption before travelling.
There will be no service on route 24 between Harrogate and Pateley Bridge on Saturday 21st September, and revised timetables will operate each day between Tuesday 24th and Saturday 28th September.
Revised timetables will also operate on service 36 between Leeds, Harrogate and Ripon on 21st, 24th and 25th September – on these days buses will not be able to run between Harrogate and Ripon due to road closures for a period in the middle of the day. See Harrogate Bus Company website for details.
Ripon Bus Station will be closed on 23rd and 24th September, so on those days service 36 will terminate at a temporary stop on Somerset Row, just next to Low Skellgate.
On Thursday 26th September the following journeys on Upper Wharfedale Venturer route 72B will not run:
On Saturday 28th September DalesBus 74 will run non-stop between Bradford Interchange and Manningham Lane. The stops on Sunbridge Road and Westgate will not be served.
The Men’s Elite Road Race will be held on Sunday 29th September, going from Leeds City Centre via the Yorkshire Dales to Harrogate. This will cause some disruption to DalesBus services, as follows:

LNER will operate additional Azuma trains between Leeds and Harrogate on Saturdays & Sundays 21st/22nd/28th/29th September.
Also on the final weekend of the championships there will be special direct buses from Harrogate to Leeds from Leeds Road at the Prince of Wales roundabout bus stop and direct buses to York from Station Avenue next to the Odeon Cinema car park. These buses will run from 1600 on Saturday 28th and 1500 on Sunday 29th September. Tickets are £10 and just £5 for under 19’s and will be available to buy from The Harrogate Bus Company’s stand in the Fan Zone, or at the bus stops.
