Various road closures in the Upper Swaledale and Upper Wensleydale are expected to disrupt Northern DalesBus services 830, 831 and 858 in the next few weeks - please check our news page before travelling as details of the road closures are subject to change.

Perfect for walking or sightseeing in the Yorkshire Dales – England’s favourite National Park.
There’s no need to book in advance, tickets are available from the driver, so you can simply turn up and go!
All single fares are no more than £3 (£1 for under 19s). Concessionary bus passes for the elderly and disabled are also valid for free travel on Northern DalesBus 831.
Catch Northern DalesBus 831 direct from the centres of Middlesbrough, Stockton and Darlington (picking up at Darlington rail station and all X66/X26 bus stops) to Richmond, then travel through Swaledale, regarded by many people as one of the most sublimely beautiful of all the Yorkshire Dales – through the iconic villages of Reeth, Low Row, Gunnerside and Muker.
Low Row features as the main village setting in the 2026 film of "Wuthering Heights". Old Gang Smelting Mills, also featured in the film, are around 2.5 miles walk from Low Row.
The bus then ascends one of the most spectacular mountain passes in the British Isles - Buttertubs Pass, of Tour de France and Tour de Yorkshire fame. Once over the 526 metre summit there are superb views from the bus windows over to Yorkshire’s famous Three Peaks and back down into Swaledale. · Hawes’s attractions include the wonderful Dales Countryside Museum with the celebrated Hartley-Ingleby collection of lead mining and farming artefacts from the Northern Dales, and Wensleydale Creamery, where the world-famous Wensleydale cheese, rescued from oblivion by the legendary Kit Calvert, is made. There is a visitor centre where you can see cheese being made and a restaurant and shop. Hardraw Force, England’s highest single drop above ground waterfall, is little more than a mile’s easy walk away.
From Hawes you can catch Northern DalesBus 832 to Sedbergh or Kirkby Lonsdale, or DalesBus 858 to Ribblehead - to see the famous viaduct.
