Askrigg is a picturesque, historic village, famous as the filming location for the original series of "All Creatures Great and Small". Attractions include scenic walks to Mill Gill Force and Whitfield Gill Force waterfalls, the historic St Oswald’s Church, and three village pubs.
Hawes’s attractions include the wonderful Dales Countryside Museum with the celebrated Hartley-Ingleby collection of lead mining and farming artefacts from the Northern Dales, and Wensleydale Creamery, where the world-famous Wensleydale cheese, rescued from oblivion by the legendary Kit Calvert, is made. There is a visitor centre where you can see cheese being made and a restaurant and shop. Hardraw Force, England’s highest single drop above ground waterfall, is little more than a mile’s easy walk away at the Green Dragon Inn in Hardraw.
Ribblehead Viaduct is an iconic location in the Yorkshire Dales, with a visitor centre at Ribblehead Station (refurbished for summer 2026 - due to reopen on 22nd April) and the popular Station Inn pub. It is a good starting point for walks in the Three Peaks, including Ingleborough and Whernside.
There’s no need to book in advance, tickets are available from the driver, so you can simply turn up and go!
All single fares are no more than £3 (£1 for under 19s). Concessionary bus passes for the elderly and disabled are also valid for free travel on Northern DalesBus 858.
DalesBus 858 does not run on Bank Holiday Mondays.
