Bus Services from York to the Yorkshire Dales & North York Moors National Parks


Enjoy a scenic trip into Yorkshire's beautiful National Parks and National Landscapes by bus from York

York & Country/East Yorkshire service 31X runs from York to Ampleforth and Helmsley in the North York Moors National Park on Monday to Saturday all year.​​

DalesBus 74 runs from York on Saturdays all-year to Knaresborough, Harrogate, Ilkley, Bolton Abbey and Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, paralleling the Dales Way footpath between Ilkley and Grassington.

East Yorkshire service 81 runs between York and Malton via Castle Howard in the Howardian Hills National Landscape on Monday to Saturday all year


Double-decker DalesBus 822 runs from York on Summer Sundays and Bank Holidays (from 5th April 2026) to Boroughbridge, Ripon, Fountains Abbey, Pateley Bridge and Grassington. Perfect for walking or sightseeing with great views of Nidderdale National Landscape and the Yorkshire Dales National Park.

DalesBus 825 runs from York on Summer Sundays and Bank Holidays 
(from 5th April 2026) via Knaresborough and Harrogate to the fantastic wind-carved crags of Brimham Rocks - a paradise for children (free entry; small visitor centre and refreshments available), Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal, Kirkby Malzeard, Hackfall, Masham, Jervaulx Abbey, Middleham, Leyburn and Richmond.

Coastliner 840 runs from York every day to Whitby, via Malton, Eden Camp, Flamingo Land, Pickering (for North York Moors Railway) and Goathland. In 2018 this route was voted as the "Most Scenic Bus Route in Britain".

​Double-decker DalesBus 875 runs from York on Summer Sundays and Bank Holidays (from 5th April 2026) via Leeds to Ilkley and Grassington, continuing to Upper Wharfedale, Aysgarth and Hawes in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. 

Moorsbus services run from York into the North York Moors National Park every Summer Saturday and Sunday (from 3rd April 2026).


There’s no need to book in advance on any of these buses, tickets are available from the driver, so you can simply turn up and go!   

Maximum single fare is just £3 on these buses.
